Pieced Back is Done...

...and it looks like I have made a modern quilt out of my flannel scraps.  I managed to use up most of my flannel scraps from the top of the quilt. I even pieced my label into the back!

I had to piece my batting!  Everything is ready to take to Cathy tomorrow after work.

I worked on some blue and neutral 9 patches tonight too. There is still a bit more sewing to do on these but they are coming along.

Christine was here tonight and she worked on some jelly bean blocks (no pictures) and another Great Granny Square:

She used my Featherweight tonight as her machine was in use by her daughter who is taking some sewing lessons.

I have some exciting news...Next week, I will be going to my 2nd Beaver Island Quilt Retreat with Gwen Marston!  I have already been planning in my head which fabrics I will take with me for this year's project--a medallion quilt. There are four of us going on this year's trip.

Here is a picture of Carol, Christine, Gwen and I from last year's retreat.

I can hardly wait!

Mystery Quilt Back

My friend, Karen, came over tonight for some sewing time. She worked on quilting a new fall table runner for her table --she hopes to have it done by Thanksgiving (the weekend of October 7th) when she will have her family at her house for dinner.  I forgot to take pictures while she was here...sorry.

I worked on piecing the flannel back for my mystery quilt. I had thought I would be able to finish the back tonight, but it took longer than I expected...I am trying to use what I have rather than going out to purchase more fabric. I had two pieces of yardage and lots of smaller pieces left from the fat quarters I used in this quilt.

I have about 1/2 of it done and will work on it again later this week to finish the other half.

Out of a fat quarter bundle with over 40 fat quarters, this is what I have left:

I picked out a pantograph for this quilt today as well...I think it is perfect for this quilt...stay tuned for the big reveal in October.

Doing a Happy Dance!

I just did the little dance of quilty joy--I have finished all 20 blocks for my Great Granny Square quilt!

Here is #19:

And here is #20:
(The chicken fabric is from Holland--I bought it at the Dutch quilt show a couple of years ago.)

Here are all the blocks laid out on my design floor...it was almost dark by the time I took the picture... I promise to take the picture of the finished quilt outside where it is nice and bright.

I have to add sashing and cornerstones and a pieced border still, but it feels good to have the blocks finished!

I did not repeat any of the fabrics except the red centres and the white background.

I also started making blue nine patches today the for 9-patch swap/mystery for the London Friendship Quilters' guild. I have 7 done so far. (I need to make 20 for the swap)

That's all for today. I may have some time to put a swoon together tomorrow night. I also have to piece the flannel backing for my Stars for My Friends mystery quilt...so much to do, sew little time.

Only 2 to go--Here is #18

I just finished sewing Great Granny Square #18...only 2 more to go. I am hoping to finish the last two blocks tomorrow.  The end of this project is in sight...

Only 3 more Swoon blocks to go and then my two Summer modern quilt projects will be done. With any luck, they will both be done by the end of the month.

#17 Great Granny Square

Christine and I did a bit of sewing tonight. I made my 17th Great Granny Square block and now I only have 3 to go!

Christine made her 5th block:

She used some 30's prints for her block.

I also finally added the last border to my mystery quilt...  This border is not part of the mystery--I added it to make my quilt bigger. I will be piecing the back shortly and getting this quilt off to the long armers to be quilted.

The big reveal will be at the October meeting of the London Friendship Quilters' guild. I will show pictures of the stages of this quilt coming together after the meeting.

Happy Sewing!

Mexican Stars DONE!

I finished sewing the binding on my Mexican Stars wall hanging tonight so I can take it for Show and Tell at the guild meeting later this week. Christine and I are co-ordinating a mystery quilt for our guild this year so we got together last week to get all of the instructions ready. We will be signing people up for the mystery at this week's meeting. I am looking forward to seeing everyone again!

I also spent some time cutting the pieces for my last 4 Great Granny Square blocks...

And my last 3 Swoon blocks...

I am hoping for some sewing time later this week to get these last few blocks sew together so I can assemble these quilts.

It is time for some shut eye.

Bye for now.

I'm back...

A few weeks ago, Pokey posted some pictures of her funky chicken pin cushions and I commented on her blogpost about how much I liked them---then, the unthinkable happened...she offered to make one and send it to me!

So cute!  I love the comb...

And the cute little tail feathers.

The pins were included!

She also included a charm pack---called "Friendship".  Thanks for the package, Pokey!  It certainly brightened my day!

I noticed a few pictures on the internet this past week of friends' first day of school. Here is my first day of school for Kindergarten. This picture was taken just a few years ago...LOL.

I have not done any sewing or blogging for the last couple of weeks --I have been busy with some family health issues. Thankfully, the sick family member is getting better and things have settled down enough to do a little bit of hand sewing this weekend.  I am working on binding my Mexican Stars wall hanging. It is not quite done yet but I hope to finish it tonight in time to take to show and tell at the London Friendship Quilters' Guild meeting later this week. I am linking to Kathy's slow stiching Sunday post here.

The quilting was done by Cathy.

I think she did a great job!

I am off to do the rest of the hand sewing on the binding and then I will post a picture of the finished wall hanging.

I am hoping to have another Great Granny or two to show later this week, and maybe even a swoon...
